ABOUT

CodeUp Manchester is a mentoring program for adults who would like to learn how to code for free. Once a month we provide a workspace for people with no programming skills to come and learn the basics, with mentors available to answer your questions and help you on your way. Our sessions will also be suitable for people with basic skills who need support to develop them, and even for people with intermediate or advanced skills who just want to come along to a space where everyone is immersed in code!

We are currently running sessions on the second Monday of the month at Code Computer Love on Dale Street in the Northern Quarter. We usually have specific areas set out for people learning HTML & CSS, Javascript and mobile development, but we also have other space for people who wish to learn other languages, and there will always be a mentor on hand who can help you in whatever you have chosen to work on.

HERE'S SOME OF THE PEOPLE WE'VE HELPED

CodeUp sessions are amazing! I was nervous going along for the first time but there's a brilliant vibe that hits you as soon as you walk in the door. There's so much going on that you can choose to be part of or you can just do your own thing in an environment that makes it easy. If you're thinking of coming along you should definitely do it, you won't regret it. Thanks Claire!

I'm so pleased that CodeUp exists! after each session I can't wait for the next one - I wish there was one every week!
It's a great environment for beginners or people with advanced skills looking to brush up on something different. The mentors are there to help everyone and they are all so approachable and friendly.
There are many different people there of all ages - beginners, experts and hobbyists.
I work in a busy environment where there isn't always someone available to teach you something new or help with a problem, so CodeUp is a godsend for me. Sometimes I just go along and practice some javascript or sometimes I have a very specific problem I am trying to solve for a project and I ask advice.
We had some speakers last time who were really interesting and a group workshop on using Github.
The organisers have made an incredible effort to cater for as many disciplines as possible and to keep the sessions interesting and enjoyable.
Good work, you guys - and thank you!

As someone who has not coded, since the home computer heyday in the mid eighties (I used to write games in assembler on the ZX Spectrum for a living) I was looking for some advice and mentoring on Swift.  I got in-touch with CodeUpMCR and it just so happened that Jonathon who is their resident mobile apps mentor was attending. He kindly did a workshop with myself and two other attendees, which really kickstarted my learning progress.  He was patient and really gave me some good 1 on 1 time, which was priceless.  I am attending  a two day swift course next week and feel really prepared for it.  CodeUpMCR is a really friendly group with a great mix of people.  If you are looking for advice on coding you have to make this your first port of call, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. - Gareth Davies
